January 2012 ONAC Member of the Month: Nawitka Catering
Nawitka Catering was founded in 2008 by the Native American Youth and Family Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. It was created as a social enterprise that provides work experience, training and employment opportunities to Portland's Native American and Alaskan Native community.
All proceeds go back into supporting the mission of the Native American Youth and Family Center, which is to "enhance the diverse strengths of our youth and families in partnership with the community through cultural identity and education." This is what makes Nawitka stand out from other local caterers. Your business helps provide youth and adults with opportunities to gain valuable training and experience in the food service industry. Nawitka Catering currently provides daily lunch service to several Portland area schools and caters large and small events for local nonprofit and for profit organizations.
At Nawitka Catering, they pride themselves in catering cuisine with the bounty around them. They use local and sustainable food suppliers and have an extensive on-site organic garden that provides fresh produce for use in meal preparation. The garden also serves as a learning garden for youth, they learn through direct, hands-on experience the process of growing and harvesting food. Meals are prepared with fresh seasonal vegetables and fruit whenever possible. They offer a wide-variety of menus from many cultures, including our growing selection of Native American menu options.
Nawitka Catering offers full-service catering for all types of events, including equipment rental. They customize menus to meet your needs and specific event. Call for a consultation and pricing. |
